The polder where I live, Groot-Mijdrecht Noord, is the inspiration for many of my paintings. At the same time, the scenes that strike and inspire me are also very recognizable to many others. Misty Meadow is, I think, a good example of this. Because the polder land is usually below sea level – and that is certainly true of this second deepest polder in the Netherlands at over 6 meters below sea level – in the morning you soon have one of those low-hanging mists that hangs over the land like a blanket so that only the trees and the backs of the cows rise above it.
