Why do we actually care so much about boundaries—whether it’s our little garden, our village, or our country? We have a good, beautiful life here, and we’d like to keep it that way. So we cordon off our territory from others. I can’t help but think about these things when I see a beautiful field of wildflowers, fenced off, with a completely flowerless lawn behind it. The haves and the have-nots. The difference between rich and poor… It may just seem like a pretty picture (and by all means, enjoy it), but it doesn’t hurt if it also gives you something to think about.
