This was my entry for the Elise Mathilde Portrait Prize, issued by the Elise Mathilde Fund in cooperation with the The Dutch Portrait Prize Foundation. The fund, founded by Elise Mathilde van Beuningen in 1935, supports the arts and culture sector with a significant portion of its resources. Only a few black and white photographs of Elise Mathilde have survived, but there was no painted portrait of her. Now there are – all entries for the portrait prize – some 236! Including this entry of mine. My challenge was to translate the black-and-white photograph of Elise Mathilde into a colorful pointillist portrait.
