Concrete Cut

A polder is usually tightly arranged with straight canals, ditches and roads. Along the main canal (the main drainage to a pumping station to keep the polder dry) is usually also a main road, often also called Main Road. So too in our polder.

And along that Main Road, not so long ago, a bike path/walking path was constructed that consists of large concrete slabs. While walking along that bike/pedestrian path the other day, I noticed the hard division between the natural grass and the rigid concrete slabs. A low but bright sun also caused the hard shadows of the grass on the concrete slabs. Only a moving plume produced a somewhat softer shadow. Mesmerized, I looked at this scene, took a picture and – later in my studio – this painting.
