Old oak trees, gathered in a small group. Late fall. All the leaves have already fallen. Yet there is a glimmer of light. The cycle of life, of the seasons… I came across this scene—which I’ve, of course, interpreted somewhat in my own way—at De Nieuwe Ooster Cemetery in Amsterdam. A beautiful cemetery that doubles as an arboretum. In addition to being full of unique headstones and tombs, it’s also full of remarkable trees. I couldn’t resist this cluster of bare, old oaks and created my own pointillist interpretation of it on linen.
