This is my entry for the Elise Mathilde Portrait Prize, issued by the Elise Mathilde Fund in collaboration with the Stichting De Nederlandse Portretprijs. The fund, founded by Elise Mathilde van Beuningen in 1935, supports the arts and culture sector with a significant part of its resources. Only a few black-and-white photographs of Elise Mathilde have survived, but there was no painted portrait of her. Now there are – all entries for the portrait prize – some 236! Including this entry from me. My challenge was to translate the black-and-white photograph of Elise Mathilde into a colourful pointillist portrait.
